Hot! 26 Weeks of Rickie

Ya know, when you really look at the Screwers season schedule, it’s about 26 weeks long, well, at least every 26 years anyway.  That’s why when Doug Melvin announced the Blew Crew had avoided arbitration and signed Richard Weeks to a one year, $2.45 million dollar contract, I fired up my abacus and ciphered that good ‘ol  Rickie was going to take home about $95,000 a week this summer.  Not bad for a guy that never misses swinging at a first pitch, consistently hit’s the beer vendor in the back with a throw when the game is on the line, and is still trying to understand what the word bunt means.  But Kudos to Melvin for avoiding arbitration, because everyone knows it’s tough enough trying to understand what Rickie is saying anytime, so can you imagine what arbitration would have been like?

Mr. Weeks had this to say about his signing, “In as much as me personally, I can see how the money works for everyone, especially since he Cubs play so well in Milwaukee, which is why scoring runs is so important.  I just take days one thing at a time, and happiness finds me when the worms off the hook and the fish are in the bank”.

See what I mean?

Blew Notes… The Screwers filled out their 40 man roster with the acquisition of Chase Wright, a lefty from the Yankees, and another minor league pitcher named Ramiro Mendoza. In return for Wright and Mendoza, the Blewers sacrificed outfielder and pitching catching prospect Eric Fryer.  Fryer will be an All-Star with the Yankees in 2010. Mendoza’s brother, nicknamed The Mendoza Line, is a cousin of Rickie Weeks. The signing of Weeks left the Brewers with only Corey Hart to lock up before the 72-90 season gets underway.  Hart was last seen still swinging and missing at pitches in Philadelphia.  Only 63 days remain before the Blewers lose to the Giants on Opening Day 2009.

Hey Bo – get an inbounds play, and while you’re at it , learn how to defend one.
