Trevor Axford?

John Axford recorded his twelfth save in as many opportunities Tuesday night, leading the Screwers to a spine-tingling 3-1 victory over the Mighty Pirates before an announced crowd of 349 people at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.  The save leaves Axford just 588 shy of 600, and just 584 behind all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman’s 596 total.  

Axford’s gem also nailed down the victory for left hander Chris Crapuano, who won for the first time since May 7, 2007.  Crappie had lost 13 straight decisions, and was winless in his 30 appearances.  The victory over the Pirates (32-60), made his comeback even more unbelievable. 

The Screw-Ha’s have three more wins against the Terrible Pirates, then come home for a three game series against the Great Washington Nationals and In Dusty We Trust’s Red Legs.  Could this be the beginning of the big winning streak that leads the Blewers into the playoffs once again?  Probably not. 

The Packers start August 14th with a pre-season game against Cleveland, without LeBron James.
