Hot! The Missing Link

As the old saying goes, “24 beers in a case, 24 hours in a day, coincidence?”  Thus, is the  return of Bob Uecker to the Brewer radio network broadcast booth and the Screwers current five game winning streak a  coincidence?  I don’t think so.

Let’s look at the hard facts.  The Screwers are actually 4-0 under Uecker 2, catapulting them just five games shy of the magical .500 mark.  “The streak”, as it has become known in Milwaukee, has come at the expense of the Pirates, Nationals and last night, the Mighty Reds.

Uecker’s mere presence in the booth has accounted for dramatic come from behind wins, solid pitching and timely hitting, all trademarks of what certainly is meant to be a World Series season. Jim Edmonds, given two chances by Bronson Arroyo to hit the same pitch, walloped an eighth inning pinch-hit blast last night to lift the Crew to 3-2 win over In Dusty We Trusty’s Reds, knocking the visitors from first place in the NL Comedy Central.

Tonight, in what certainly will be  the sixth straight win, Yo-Yo Gallardo takes the mound against the Reds Edison Volquez and his obese 7.06 ERA.  With Uecker calling the action, a sweep of the Reds is certain, and with upcoming series against the Astros and the Scrubs, this streak could reach on into infinity.

The key will be for Uecker to travel with the team, and if that happens, the streak could reach 66 games, with the Screwers finishing 109-53, assuring themselves of at least a Wild Card spot, if not the Comedy Central crown.

Bottom line, it’s all on  Uecker and his microphone. So stay tuned Screwer fans, this could be the greatest season in the history of the franchise.  Then again, if I’m wrong, maybe not.
