Hot! A Whiff Of Vegas

Within 48 hours, I will be standing on the floor of the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada. I’ll probably be sipping a mojito from the iBar with the Wurst and preparing to shame Locksmith Joel in a passive-aggressive manner for his rationale in dropping a c-note on the New England Patriots to win the Superbowl.

I’ve said this once or twice before…since Bill Belichick got busted for taping signals following the 2007-2008 season, the Patriots have done nothing but lose the big game. I recognize the fact that Tom Brady has been reunited with his old offensive coordinator. But, let’s face it, the Patriots are in a once-feared division, play a more-than-soft schedule, and still have to face a now-superior NFC in the Superbowl, if they even get there. Brady isn’t the young buck he once was, either.

I’m not here to talk about the merits of the New England Patriots. I’m here to talk about Las Vegas. First of all, I have to publicly thank my wife for allowing me to go to such an odd city by myself. Husbands aren’t often afforded that kind of latitude. Second, I want to give you my top-ten list of personal favorites in the great city of Sin. (Spearmint Rhino didn’t make the list, because I’ve never been there, despite the fact that everyone tells me it’s a heckuva place.)

10) The view from the Foundation room. Thanks, Shawn and Pat
9) Gambling downtown…you pick the venue, but I’m always a Binion’s guy.
8) The Big Shot…unless you have cardiovascular disease
7) ReHab on Sundays…and the alcohol that comes with it
6) The happenstance bump into the occasional celebrity, when you least expect it
5) I’ll miss you Carnival Court
4) Dancing on the roof at Voodoo Lounge
3) The Hole in the Wall
2) The Rooms at TheHotel
1) The smell at the airport…and the hotel du jour on the strip.

A modest list, but mix these in with good company, a couple of cocktails, and some Lady Luck and you’ll be happy as a clam…just like me…in less than two days. Our beloved Pack now at 7-1 to reclaim their world championship.
